71bay is partnered with registered fair trade organisations that have been operating in bangladesh since 1971, the year that bangladesh became an independent country after nine-months of war.    

our wares are thoughtfully designed in australia by shehreen, who holds 10+ years of professional experience in the architecture & design industries in melbourne & overseas. each design is unique to 71bay and envisioned with care, time & love. we are generally not swayed by trends and focus solely on timelessness & objects of the highest quality that will hold its place to be cherished for years to come.  

our designs are crafted by women artisans who work from their homes in remote, rural communities of bangladesh. we provide careful training to our artisans before they start production of a new design; they then go on to use their skillful hands and years of inherent traditional knowledge & craftsmanship to bring our vision to life.  

our artisans, their children and stories are what inspire us daily and we are honoured to have created this platform to bring their works to life.  

orders placed translate into direct employment opportunities that go on to bring about a series of change to these families - steady employment means some sound financial decisions can be made for the future; course of life altered as children are sent to school; societies & communities forever empowered as women earn.
